Title: Foams for Surfboards Speaker: LeRoy Whinnery Date/Time: Wednesday, July 12, 2006, 2:00 – 3:00 pm (PST) Location: Building 915, Room S101 Sandia CA, videoconferenced to Building. 980, Room 95 (Sandia NM) Brief Abstract: Recently, big changes have taken place in the surfboard manufacturing community. Spurred by the closure of Clark Foam, the leading supplier (~85% of the market) of polyurethane foam surfboard blanks, many companies are trying to rush to fill the void. Although initially developed to protect electronics from shock, vibration and impact, Sandia’s TufFoam was shown to be a viable candidate for surfboard foam blanks. This seminar will focus on the requirements of a replacement foam, how TufFoam matches up to the competition and an overview of how surfboards are made.CSRI POC: Timothy Shepodd, (925) 294-2791 |
