Qt makes it easy to create native looking and performing applications on Unix, Linux, Windows and MacOSX platforms using the "write once, compile everywhere paradigm". Gaining popularity as a GUI Toolkit in the mid 1990s, Qt has evolved into a SW Application Framework with support for all aspects of application development including: Networking, Threading, XML, SQL, Unicode Strings, Containers, etc.

About 5,000 companies world wide including about 50 people here at Sandia. Qt is particularly popular within the performance critical industries; often in combination with 2D and 3D visualization or simulation of huge data sets and/or real-time displays. Sandia's work with Cubit, ParaView, and ThreatView are examples of how clients create their applications with Qt: http://trolltech.com/customers/casestories
