Speaker: Molly Minana & Jennifer Turgeon, Sandia National Laboratories

Date/Time: Tuesday, December 11, 2007, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Location: CSRI Building, Room 90 (Sandia NM)

Brief Abstract: The SNL ASC Program initiated a two-year program-wide software quality appraisal process in April 2007. The overall goal of the software quality appraisal activity is to provide guidance to individual teams and to the ASC Program on quality improvement opportunities for the software that is being developed and delivered. Currently, 20 projects have been appraised in 2007, and an additional 16 projects are scheduled for completion by April 2008.

This seminar will share current SNL corporate drivers around software engineering requirements and provide lessons learned to date from 17 of the ASC FY07 appraisals. Summarized appraisal results will be reviewed, including discussion on identified strengths and weaknesses that have been observed in projects' implementation of the ASC Practices. The presenters will share feedback from appraised projects regarding their "pains and gains" from software process improvement efforts and how these issues are being addressed. Finally, specific SNL ASC Program improvement plans are underway to address some of the identified lessons learned. Key "take home" messages from the appraisals and SNL ASC Program plans for future software process improvement will be covered.
