Location: CSRI Building/Room 90 (Sandia NM)

Brief Abstract: Over the past decade and a half, agents and agent-based systems have received a lot of attention both within and outside of the Computer Science community.  But, what really is an agent?  More importantly, what can agents really do for you?  This seminar will provide a brief overview of agent systems and some of the applications Sandia is developing using agent-based concepts.  In particular, I will discuss Omega-AB, a hybrid modeling and simulation environment for agent-based systems, and the development of agent-based optimization systems.  I will attempt to cut through the mysticism that often surrounds agency and highlight the role that agents can fill in addressing challenging problems in modeling and optimization.
