Title: Advances in Adjoint Methods for Scientific Computation

Brief Abstract: Adjoint techniques are valuable tools for error control and uncertainty quantification in multiphysics applications. We summarize our recent results for stationary multiphysics simulation and discuss in detail our ongoing recent work for reducing or eliminating difficulties inherent in adjoint methods for time-dependent multiphysics simulation. We focus on two new techniques, block adaptivity and compensated domain decomposition, which both exhibit useful features, especially for high perfomance computing.
