Brief Abstract: The multicore era is here. Our desktops are running quad-cores, Red Storm is dual-core (for now), we expect to have quad-core capacity clusters in the near future, and Center 1400 has recently announced a collaboration with LANL to deploy the next ASC capability platform, which could bring us even greater parallelism within the processor (and in scale, but that's a story for another day). What research efforts are taking place to address the application issues associated the move to multicore? This seminar will discuss efforts involving multicore performance analysis, algorithm design, and the interaction between them.
