Brief Abstract: This presentation describes architecture research and systems development activities at Sandia. The U.S. Congress established the Institute for Advanced Architectures in 2008 with Centers of Excellence in Albuquerque, NM and Knoxville, TN. A goal for the center is to develop key technologies that will enable useful exascale computing in the next decade in collaboration with industry and academia. Initial technology focus areas are memory subsystems, interconnect technologies, architecture-aware algorithms, power and resilience. Also described is a new partnership with LANL in which the two labs will jointly architect, develop, procure and operate capability systems for DOE¹s Advanced Simulation and Computing Program. The partnership is initially focused on a petascale production capability system that will be deployed in late 2009.
