Title: Nightly Software Testing in Acro with EXACT and FAST (Software Engineering Seminar Series) Speaker: Bill Hart, Sandia National Laboratories Date/Time: Tuesday, January 22, 2008, 11:30am, TALK STARTS @ 12:00pm Location: CSRI Building, Room 90 (Sandia NM) Brief Abstract: Sandia's Acro software framework integrates a rich variety of optimization libraries and solvers that have been developed for large-scale engineering and scientific applications. Acro was developed to facilitate the design, development, integration and support of optimization software libraries. Thus, Acro includes both individual optimization solvers as well as optimization frameworks that provide abstract interfaces for flexible interoperability of solver components. Acro releases support a variety of applications customers, including DAKTOA (ASC), water security (EPA) and military logistics (LM). This talk will summarize and critique Acro's framework for performing and summarizing nightly tests. Nightly testing is an integral part of Acro's software quality plan, and these tests have proven critical to ensuring the stability of Acro. Several types of tests are performed nightly, including smoke tests, code coverage tests, memory tests, integration tests, portability tests and functional tests. Two testing tools developed for Acro will be highlighted in this talk. EXACT provides a framework for describing, controlling, and analyzing computer experiments. With EXACT, a user can describe experimental factors and levels, design experiments, control experimental runs, and analyze results. EXACT is currently use to define and execute nightly tests in Acro. This execution is coordinated with FAST, a toolkit for coordinating software experiments across a distributed set of compute platforms. FAST coordinates Acro software builds, collects build artifacts (e.g. test results) and generates daily summaries.
