Brief Abstract: This presentation will provide a description of some of the work carried out in the SAR Sensors Department that is related to electromagnetic scattering and propagation. The importance of physical and mathematical approximations will be discussed. Several applications will be described, showing advantages and disadvantages of both approximate and rigorous methods. While the material focuses on Maxwell's equations, primitive roots of prime numbers manage to make a brief appearance.  However, the SAR (synthetic-aperture-radar) imaging process is not included among the topics.
