Title: Discontinuous Galerkin Method for the Reaction Infiltration Instability Speaker: Alan Schiemenz, Brown University Date/Time: Monday, January 12, 2009, 1:00 – 2:00 pm Location: CSRI Building/Room 279 (Sandia NM) Brief Abstract: Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods are emerging as a superior technique in the numerical solution to partial differential equations, robustly offering high-order accuracy, adaptive hp-refinement, and capability of implementation on complicated mesh structure. In this talk, I will first discuss the basic formulation of DG and highlight a few of its strengths and weaknesses. Next, I will present an application of DG in a problem dealing with fluid flow through a porous medium and the Reactive Infiltration Instability (RII). Specifically, a possible connection between mantle heterogeneity and dunite channel distribution will be explored. CSRI POC: Scott Collis (505) 284-1123 |
