Title: Peridynamic Mechanics2009 CSRI Summer Lecture Series Speaker: Stewart Silling, Sandia National Laboratories Date/Time: Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 3-4pm (MST) Location: CSRI Building, Room 90 (Sandia NM), 915/S145 CA Brief Abstract: Conventional techniques for analyzing the deformation of mechanical structures are mostly incompatible with the physical nature of how these structures ultimately fail. In this talk, I will describe a new mathematical reformulation of basic mechanics that is more consistent with cracking and other important modes of material failure. I will describe a solution method for these equations and show examples of predicted crack growth and structural failure. Also, issues and research directions relevant to the broader mathematical, physical, and computer science communities will be discussed. CSRI POC: Zhaofang Wen, (505) 284-0206 |
