Title: A Multi-Scale Model of Vacuum Breakdown

Speaker: Helga Timko, European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) Meyrin, Switzerland and University of Helsinki, Finland

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 10:30 am

Location: IPB/1155

Brief Abstract: Sparks and arcs are present in our everyday life since thousands of years, nevertheless, especially vacuum arcs are surprisingly poorly understood. In the talk, a multi-scale model of vacuum breakdown will be presented, summarizing our current model of possible trigger mechanisms, plasma onset and resulting surface damage.
