Title: Wind power forecasting and power system operations Speaker: Jianhui Wang, Argonne National Laboratory Date/Time: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 11:00 am Location: CSRI Building/Room 279 (Sandia NM) Brief Abstract: This seminar is to discuss wind power forecasting methodologies and its use in power system operations. The presentation is structured into two parts. The first part concentrates on surveying existing wind power forecasting methodologies and tools and identifying strengths and limitations of different approaches. A new and improved wind forecasting methodology is proposed based on the survey findings. The second part of the presentation addresses how operators of power systems can incorporate advanced wind forecasting technologies into their operations, in the time span from several days ahead to real-time operations. Improved methodologies and algorithms to incorporate the wind power forecasts into decision support models for power system operations will be investigated. CSRI POC: Jean-Paul Watson, 505-845-8887 |
