Jim Ang has a PhD (1986) and
MS (1984) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California
at Berkeley. Jim also has a B.S. (1982)
from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a B.A. (1981)
from Grinnell College. After a few years living and working in Santa
Barbara, CA, he joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1989. Jim’s
current responsibilities include: leading the Scalable Systems Integration
department, representing Sandia’s high-end computing needs and
capabilities to the ASC Tri-Lab community and beyond, managing Sandia’s
Computer Science Research Foundation portfolio, and developing integrated
platform strategies for Sandia’s usage and development of capability
platforms like Red Storm, mid-range systems like Thunderbird, and commodity
turn-key clusters. Jim is a member of IEEE Computer Society, the Hypervelocity
Impact Society, Tau Beta Pi, and Pi Tau Sigma. Jim’s outside
interests include: Searching for the sublime ride, Pursuing a good
walk spoiled, and Saving the memories with digital photography.
