Portals is a message passing interface intended to allow scalable, high-performace network communication between nodes of a parallel computing system. Specifically, it is designed to support a parallel computing platform composed of clusters of commodity workstations connected by a commodity system area network fabric. In addition, Portals is well suited to massively parallel processing and embedded systems.
Portals is the result of collaborative efforts between the Scalable Computing Systems at Sandia National Laboratories and the Scalable Systems Laboratory at the University of New Mexico Computer Science Department.
