Ed Barsis graduated from Cornell University with B.S., M.S., & Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Physics. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army before joining Sandia in 1969. At Sandia National Laboratories, Dr. Barsis held positions on the technical staff and in senior management. He led an effort in parallel computing, which resulted in worldwide acceptance of the technology and the development of the largest supercomputer in the world. He also established nationally recognized programs in robotics and information technology, and managed the design effort for more than fifty different subsystems for the U.S. nuclear weapons program. He represented the corporation on programmatic and policy issues to other companies, U.S. agencies, and foreign governments
