David M. Nicol is Professor of Computer
Science at Dartmouth College, and Director of Research and Development at the
Institute for Security Technology Studies. In Summer 2003 he will become Professor
of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
He earned a B.A. in mathematics at Carleton College in 1979, and M.S. and Ph.D.
degrees in computer science from the University of Virginia in 1985. His research
interests include high performance computing, performance analysis, simulation
and modeling, and network security. He is co-author of the widely used text, Discrete
Event System Simulation, 3rd Edition (by Banks, Carlson, Nelson, Nicol). He has
been Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation since
1997. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
