VizMining 2009 Workshop
|
To be held conjunction with the 2009 SIAM
International Conference on Data Mining.
Description
The goal of this workshop is to bring
together researchers and application experts interested
in solving data analysis problems using combinations of
data mining and visualization techniques. Given the many
algorithms, data structures, models, and architectures
being applied to problems in data mining and information
visualization, we are at a point where interaction
between these communities can be of significant mutual
benefit. We believe that discussion by experts in these
areas will stimulate many worthwhile and interesting new
ideas.
- Focus Areas
- Information visualization
- Scientific data mining and visualization
- Visualization and collaborative filtering
- Visualization and machine learning
- Visualization and statistical relational learning
- Visualization and text analysis
- Visualization of cluster data
- Visualization of high dimensional data
- Visualization of multi-dimensional (tensor) data and analysis
- Visualization of statistics

Registration
- Registration is handled through the main conference registration
page. If you are not planning to attend the entire 2009
SIAM Internation Conference on Data Mining, you can choose
the option of a One-Day registration for the
VizMining 2009 Workshop.
Submission
- Submission Due Date
-
January 20, 2009> January 27, 2009
- Contributed Talk Research Papers
- There will be 6-10 contributed talks at the workshop,
each allowed 25 minutes. Authors will submit a completed
manuscript, which will be reviewed by at least two members
of the Program Committee. Authors of accepted papers will
be required to present their work as a contributed talk,
and the paper will be included in the workshop
proceedings. Papers submitted to this conference must not
have been accepted or be under review by another
conference with a published proceedings or by a
journal. The work may be either theoretical or applied,
but should make a significant contribution to the
field. Papers should have a maximum length of 12
pages.
- Software Demo White Papers
- There will be 2-4 software demonstrations at the
workshop, each allowed 25 minutes. Developers will submit
an extended abstract (1-2) pages, which will be reviewed
by at least two members of the Program
Committee. Demonstrations will be chosen based on this
review, and presenters will submit a white paper on their
software. The papers will be included as part of the
workshop proceedings. White papers submitted to this
conference must not have been accepted or be under review
by another conference with a published proceedings or by a
journal. The paper should describe the software system
architecture and one or more use cases. White papers
should have a maximum length of 6 pages.
- Formatting Instructions for All Submissions
- Both research and white papers should be single-spaced, 2
column, 10 point font, and at least 1" margin on each
side). Authors should use US Letter (8.5" x 11") paper
size. Papers must have an abstract with a maximum of 300
words and a keyword list with no more than 6
keywords. Authors are required to submit their papers
electronically in PDF format (postscript files can be
converted using standard convertors).
We would like to encourage you to prepare your paper in
LaTeX2e. Papers should be formatted using the SIAM SODA
macro, which is available through the SIAM website. You
can access it here. The
filename is soda2e.all. Make sure you use the macros for
SODA and Data Mining Proceedings; papers prepared using
other proceedings macros will not be accepted.
For Microsoft Word users, please convert your document to
the PDF format. If you need information about the formats
for preparing the paper using Word, consult the
instructions given here
or contact Nancy Griscom at griscom@siam.org.
