Sandia National Laboratories is a world leader in analysis and visualization of large data, emphasizing research which addresses areas unique to complex, large data.  Working closely with Sandia’s experts in scalable algorithms, databases, and application development, we develop tools that are used daily by researchers, analysts, and businesses around the world.

In many important areas – scientific computing, medicine, social network analysis, financial analysis – the size and complexity of data is increasing daily.  Traditionally, the problem has been dealing with the size of data – it has been difficult to simply access the terabytes – and now, petabytes – of available data.  Increasingly, however, the more important issue is the complexity of the data.  Given a world of complex data from many sources, how do we present a unified view of the data?  How does a researcher understand complex relationships in large data?  How do we interact with others to uncover the insights that lie within these clouds of data?

By incorporating advanced algorithms, innovative hardware architectures, and scalable analysis components, we build tools that promote insight, regardless of the complexity, size, or uncertainty of the data.  Through open source projects (Titan, OverView, and collaboratively, ParaView), we collaborate on innovations in tool development, component development, and research with partners and customers around the world.
