Design Through Analysis Integration

Design Through Analysis (DTA) is an effort to improve the impact that computer-based analysis can have on the design process. The biggest need is for increased throughput speed. In an attempt to do this, all development associated with this effort has been combined under the new DART project umbrella. Requirements have been collected and prioritized and development is being directed to eliminate bottlenecks in the process. Requirement prioritization is being accomplished via a set of analysts who now act as product managers for each development project.

Targeted impact areas include:

  1. Geometry editing. This includes better geometry translation, cleanup, defeaturing and decomposition.
  2. Metatdata Persistence. This will allow a clean flow of information through the various tools, preserving data integrity, reducing redundant entries and associated errors.
  3. Simulation Manager. We are developing an integrated user environment where all tools can be easily accessed and DTA artifacts tracked and archived as needed.
  4. Materials Database. The need for accurate, accessible material properties has been identified as a high-impact activity. We are pushing forward to populate the Materials WISDM database and then integrate the links to this information with all applicable DTA tools.
  5. Job Submission. The process of running applications of the ASCI level machines is a complex and error prone mechanism to date. We are developing ways to consistently automate and support this process, hoping to eliminate time and tedium for the analysts.
  6. Analyst Home Page. We have created an analysts' home page where those involved in DTA can turn for accurate and updated information.
  7. Post Processing. We have identified some time critical aspects of the visualization and processing of results that should significantly improve the processing of output.
