At Sandia National Laboratories, we excel in supercomputing: we build supercomputers; we build robust run-time environments for production runs; we develop complex simulations; we run diverse applications, and we advance the understanding of complex phenomena. We seek computer scientists in all areas to help us extend our clusters and to design and build new supercomputers. We are currently developing systems that will deliver tens to hundreds of teraflops. Soon, we will extend these systems to be capable of delivering petaflops.
While the challenges are enormous, they are matched by the excitement that comes with knowing you are creating unprecedented supercomputing resources to meet the most exacting needs. You will have outstanding opportunities for professional growth and development. If you are interested, you will be given the opportunity to pursue higher education at the local University of New Mexico or elsewhere. Should you ever run out of challenges in your current job or simply need a change of pace, you can easily transfer to another team within Sandia or propose your own research.
Our current shared computing resources include: the 9600 processor ASCI Red (3 teraflops peak) and a variety of Alpha and Pentium clusters ranging in size from 64 nodes to the 1500+ nodes (1.5 teraflops peak) of our Alpha-based Cplant(tm).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent positions at Sandia, we normally require US citizenship and an advanced degree (or equivalent experience) with preparation in operating systems (Linux or Unix variants), and excellent programming skills in C or C++.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS include experience in: software development, scripting languages like Perl, parallel processing, low level programming (e.g., device drivers or device control programs), message passing, testing and integration of computing systems (preferably clusters), parallel file systems, scalable IO, system monitoring and management tools development, parallel application development, debugging and performance tools, applications support, configuration management, release management, and system administration.
LOCATIONS: Our main campus is located in Albuquerque, NM, at an altitude of 5400+ ft, where the mountain air keeps weather dry and moderate year-round. This land of enchantment provides abundant recreational opportunities like hiking, biking, skiing, and more. Our other major location is Livermore, CA, amidst Silicon Valley.
